"Important" things I do in “NOT” so important meetings…

Every now and then we get into meetings; it can be over a call or in a meeting room, with our manager or on shore / off shore guys, in an understandable language or slightly out of understandable lingo. First thing in morning when you check your calendar and see a lot of blue boxes, you have a little smirk on your face. Some of them are important ones that you need yourself to prepare for as you are the show stopper, some are of moderate category where you can go without revising your notes and the last one are the one where your presence is absolutely not required but your attendance is a must! I personally like the last category as there are a lot of important things that can get done there. Well important for “YOU” not your “Manager” , it’s a perfect time when you are actually attending some important presentation but actually projecting your dreams in your mind. The type of meetings this category includes is monthly team meetings, town halls, product discussion calls, process improvement discussions and any other meetings where you don’t need to put your inputs and where you are merely a spectator. So, here are some “Important” things I like to do in not so important work conversations:

Brainstorming: Well one thing I must say that the peace in such meetings is insanely pleasant and gives me enough silence to concentrate on a stuck logic, a business problem, my notes preparation for some other meetings, building some nasty code logics. So, the moment I step out of that meeting I just work out something I’ve been stuck for whole day and for me that meeting was a huge success even though the CEO was mentioning “Loss” during his speech who cares I get to go home on time today.

Planning: Sometimes we are so stuck up in the sea saw of work and home that we rarely find any time to think and plan about some very important stuff like party with friends, shopping, weekend getaway, tax investments, self study and so on. This hour or half gives a perfect window to actually think and decide upon these so called “for granted” category. Also the love smitten people can think about what’s the next thing they can surprise their lovey dovey with.

The after math: We usually struggle to reach office on time, on top of that as soon as you open your mailbox you just enter into a different mode and you forget about other important problems like who is the real culprit in your favorite show, who’s that mysterious guy talking to the girl under your porch every night, what will happen if Khallesee will get to know John Snow’s reality?, what is going to be the next headline by American president.  You know these things are really important!

Wardrobe Selection:  Ask any girl how important and at the same time stressful for her to decide what to wear at any party and she’ll tell you the struggle is real. Now, situation becomes really intense when there is more than one party and the guests are common as she now has to even remember what she wore in last and last to last event so that she won’t repeat accidently and all these things need time to think. So, next time you see a girl thinking too deep and scribbling something you know the point of reciprocation.

Dinner Menu: Personally my favorite is deciding what I am going to eat in dinner this evening, would it be Indian, Italian, Mexican, Chinese or so on. I just imagine the taste of each of them and then decide turns out I become more impatient for this meeting now.

Texting/Social Media : This gives you enough break to check your phone, missed tweets, insta updates, wats app messages and so on. We can even go for under the table texting and can make this business discussion a frantic discussion with your friends on a different channel.
