Aarya Review : Sushmita Sen is back with a Bang!

Aarya (portrayed by Sushmita Sen ) is a story of a lady whose husband Tej (portrayed by Chandrachur Singh)  got assassinated . The whole drama revolves around the after math of that one incident that changes everything.

Owning an illegal business, Tej had lot of secrets that will now going to get unfold on Aarya post his sudden death. How Aarya is going to manage and protect her family is what you’ll going to watch in the 9 episode series.

You can watch first episode free on Hotstar, post that its available on the paid version of Hotstar VIP.

Actors

Sushmita Sen as Aarya does a splendid job, she has that aura, the screen presence that dominates! Her dialog delivery and the screen presence make every dialog leave an impact! Chandrachur Singh as Tej looks veteran and come as natural on screen. Namit Das playing Jawahar Bishnoi as one of the greedy and cunning partner gives full justice to the character.

One of the “to be applauded” point of Aarya is that there is a perfect room for every character to breathe and perform. Every supporting cast ; the kids, the sister, sister’s husband, father and even the friends has some where a key role to play in so they won’t look like any piece of furniture that has been added just to enhance the look of the screen.

Screenplay and Direction

OTTs or should I say series web series has a positive point over movies that the canvas is bigger than usual. Makers of Aarya has used that canvas very well, the story has been presented efficiently in a way that it won’t feel dragged neither do it feels rushed upon. The one single intention that is “to protect her family” is consistent across the episodes and that binds the whole story together.

Edit and Background Music

Special mention to the background music as it is very original, the Bhagwad Geeta shlokas have been adapted into modern music and the climax has been fusioned with it so effortlessly that it gives whole cinematic feel to it. Also, there is a use of old classic Bollywood music in a very interesting manner that the situation exactly goes with the literal meaning of the song.

Some great lines

“Pehle Dhanda Mard kiya karte the jo ab bache nahi…”

“Kae baar sawal sahi ya galat ka nhi balki galat aur kam galat ka hota hai…”

My favorite scene

Actually there is not one, I am kind of greedy when it comes to cinema:

So, in no orderly fashion the first one will be where Aarya calls up her Dad with her wounded husband in her lap and said “I don’t even know if he is alive Papa..”

What I like about that scene is the emotional weightage of that particular line and how beautifully it has been played.  Imagine a lady who has her dying husband in her arms and calling up her family and saying that he might be dead. There is pain in her voice but she is strong enough to hold herself together in that situation.

The climax scene

The climax scene where Aarya actually get to know about the real culprit and the truth is actually devastating for her and she doesn’t know what to do. She is in an emotional dilemma similar like Arjuna in Mahabharata and that’s the time when Krishna gave Geeta’s Updesh. They have drawn a parallel with Aarya and Arjuna with a Geeta shloka fusion music in the background that it gave a whole cinematic and musical sort of touch to that. Visually, it looked magical on-screen.

Final Review

Its an amazing series with gripping story line present beautifully with a powerful strong female character. You won't feel cheated post watching it!

So in my opinion if you like those story lines presented cut to cut with no added preservatives to look it fancier than it is then you should watch this.
